Messages For Friends: Nice Things To Write In A Friendship Card

what to write in a friend card

Table of Contents

You love your friends and you want to make sure they know it- and sending them a friendship card that speaks to your relationship is a great way to do that! Whether you have a way with words or you can never quite think of the right thing to say, sometimes we all need a little inspiration to get the words exactly right when we try to put our feelings down on paper. Whatever the occasion is – a birthday, an exciting opportunity, a time of struggle, or just because – we have some helpful tips and suggestions to get you started writing a fabulous friendship card that will make your friend’s day!

Reasons To Send A Friendship Card

There are probably a million reasons to send a friendship card, just like there are a million types of friendships. But our favorite reason to send a friendship card is no reason at all! Your friend will be delighted to receive a note in the mail from you on a random day when it’s least expected. Even though your friend isn’t expecting it, you may be prompted to send a friendship card for a number of reasons. Here’s just a few reasons why we love to send a friendship card.

To Tell Your Friend How Much You Appreciate Them

Do you ever just feel especially grateful for one of your friends? Maybe they did something for you or someone else that made you realize how lucky you are to have them in your life. Or maybe they just popped into your head one day and you’ve been thinking of them fondly. These are the perfect moments to let your friend know what they mean to you. If they did something specific that made you pause to reflect on why they’re such a special person, let them know. They absolutely would love to hear it! If you’re admiring their great qualities, tell them. Most of us don’t hear often enough about the things we do to earn the admiration of others. Telling your friends in the moment when you’re feeling particularly appreciative of their friendship is a great way to make sure your friends know that you appreciate them.

To Send Some Words Of Encouragement

A friendship card is a great way to remind your friend that you’re always there for them. You’ve been there through thick and thin, highs and lows, and everything in between. No matter where we are on our journey, we all could use some encouragement now and then- and a reminder that our friends have our back no matter what.

You think your friends are pretty great people, and you want to cheer them on. When they’re doing something great, you want to be there to tell them to keep it up! Celebrate big victories and small accomplishments by telling your friend that you see the work they’re doing, that you’re proud of them for all the great things they do, and that you love seeing them chase their dreams.

When your friend is struggling with something, you want to be there to encourage them to hang in there so they can get back to being their awesome self again. Sometimes just a few kind words from a friend can make all the difference to get us through our toughest days.

To Reconnect With A Friend You Haven’t Seen In A While

Oftentimes, life just happens, and we lose touch with friends we value. When we get caught up in our busy lives, sending a little note in the mail can be a great way to reconnect. Sending a card can be less pressure than a phone call or text that demands a more immediate response, and it can be a great reminder to a friend that even though you haven’t seen each other in a while, they’re still important to you.

Send a note saying, “I miss you.” Ask your friend how they’ve been lately- ask about school, work, family, etc. Give an update on your life. Invite your friend to catch up sometime, either by getting together in person, or setting aside time for a phone call. Then follow up to get something scheduled!

To Share A Thought Or Memory

Do you ever see something that you just know one of your friends would appreciate? Or read something and then have a thought that you want to share with someone? Write it down and send it to your friend! It’ll give them something fun to think about, and then you can discuss it the next time you see each other.

Same thing goes when you have a memory of something you did with one of your friends. If you have a memory that makes you feel warm and fuzzy, it’ll be even better if you know remembering will make your friend feel warm and fuzzy too. If you remember a time when you and your friend did something hilarious, it’ll feel good knowing you’ll make them laugh.

To Brighten Up Your Friend’s Day

Sometimes you just want to send a friendship card because it feels good to put a card in the mail and know that you’ll be making your friend’s day. You’ll make your friend feel special and nurture your relationship.

What Should You Write About In A Friendship Card?

Most of the time, the point of sending a friendship card is no other reason than to make your friend smile. And luckily, there are so, so many ways to do that! After all, in a world where everything has been made quick and easy and most of our correspondence is done on our cell phones or computers, you will have already brightened up your friend’s day just by putting in the effort to write a handwritten note and stick it in the mail.

When writing your friendship card, keep your friendship at the forefront of your thoughts. Let your friend know what your relationship means to you, and specifically why you’re glad they’re your friend. Let the tone of your relationship set the tone for your note. If you’re affectionate with each other, keep it sweet. If you’re casual friends or acquaintances, keep your tone light. If you’re sassy with each other, use a more playful, teasing tone (lovingly, of course). You get the idea.

A friendship card doesn’t have to be complicated to write. You can keep it short, sweet, and simple, or write a longer note about why your friendship is important to you. If you’re looking for some inspiration to get a little more creative, read on for our favorite ideas!
