My name is Shelby and I am the founder of White Clover Paper Co. I started White Clover Paper Co as a way to bring together two things I love – painting and handwritten letters. Painting brings me joy, and I hope to spread joy by sending notes in the mail – and I hope that with my stationery and greeting cards, I can help you spread some joy too!
While I don’t have a formal art education, I do have a long time love for watercolors. I remember playing with cheap watercolor paints as a kid, but I really developed a love for watercolors when I was in middle school. We painted leaves in watercolor, and that was one of my favorite art projects ever. In high school and college, I put my creativity and love for arts and crafts aside to pursue more academic interests (and a bachelors in nursing). After graduating from college, when I had more time to explore my hobbies and interests again, I picked up a watercolor set on a whim, and rediscovered my passion for painting. Three years into my nursing career, the COVID pandemic started, and I used painting as a way to relax, take my mind off my problems and career, and cling to the things that bring me joy. Painting brought me a calm and a focus that little else did, and it allowed me to slow down and enjoy the beauty in the world around me.
In 2022, with my husband’s encouragement, I decided to put my paintings to use and start an Etsy shop and my very own business. We started out small selling a very small selection of greeting cards featuring my watercolor paintings. We quickly began exploring art prints, and eventually I really found my passion – designing stationery with borders, patterns, and designs created from my paintings. From there we learned about invitations and notepads, and our product lines continue to grow as we continue learning new processes and techniques.
As our business has grown, our family has also grown and changed. We moved from Grand Rapids, Michigan to a rural country house in 2022 and we welcomed our first child in 2024. This little business has become a family project, and it has allowed me to be a full time mama, for which I am very, very grateful.
All of our products begin as watercolor paintings, done by hand with paint on paper. My paintings are digitized, minimally edited to preserve the originally intended colors and touch up blemishes, and then used to create the products you see in our shop.
We partner with a professional printing company located here in the U.S. to create our greeting cards, stationery, notepads, and invitations. They specialize in working with small stationery designers and create high quality products. All of our printed products come back to us before shipping to you for a final look over and adding finishing touches to packaging.
We produce all of our art prints in house using a professional grade ink jet printer. Most prints are not made until your order is placed, meaning we work in small batches and are able to look everything over to ensure your prints come out just right. All of our art prints are done on 300gsm cotton paper with a smooth finish that frames beautifully to bring delightful art to your space.
Our mission is first and foremost to provide our customers with unique, beautiful, and high quality stationery and art prints to bring joy into many facets of your life. We love the sentiment and meaningful extra bit of effort that goes into a hand written note, and we want to provide you with the perfect canvas for writing beautiful notes and letters. We hope that the care and intention that goes into our art and designs will underscore the thoughtfulness you put into the notes you write and the spaces you decorate while adding a touch of fun and whimsy.
Finally, we think it’s amazing that God, the creator of all things good and beautiful, made us in His image and likeness with the desire to make good and beautiful things in imitation of Him. All the inspiration for our art comes from God’s beautiful creation, and ultimately we want all of our work to point back to Him for His glory.
